The Sleeping Beauty

February 6, 2006 ... Toronto, Ontario ... Karen Kain Kain, Artistic Director of The
National Ballet of Canada, announced her first season of Canada's largest ballet
company and the inaugural season at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing
Arts today.
Ms. Kain, who assumed the role of Artistic Director July 1, 2005, announced that
the company will open the new theatre with a refurbished production of Rudolf
Nureyev's The Sleeping Beauty on November 9, 2006. The production will have a
$700,000 restoration to bring back the Nicholas Georgiadis costumes, wigs and
scenery to their original splendour.

"To mark this new era for the company, it is fitting to open the 2006/07 season with
a work that not only epitomizes the experience of classical ballet in its grandest
form, but represents an important part of the National Ballet's history: a gloriously
refurbished production of Rudolf Nureyev's The Sleeping Beauty. The ballet was a
turning point for the company when it premiered in 1972 and I am happy to be able
to celebrate this landmark work as we open in our new home," said Ms. Kain.
